quantum of solace: 007

GoldenEye 007 was arguably the best FPS game on N64 and pioneered the way for online console frag-fests. Since that fateful game, Bond fans everywhere have been looking for the next true GoldenEye. Though a new GoldenEye game is in the works, Daniel Craig has still gotten other games to put his Bond talent to work in. Only question, is this worth your money? IS IT?? IS IT?!?! Let's find out.
The story sucks. Just sucks. How bad does it suck? Well, I skipped through it 1/2 through the game. It makes no sense. Why? According to GameInformer, the story BLENDS Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace into one one story line. I just skipped through the story and you should, too.
If anyone looks at this game, they'll be sure to think of CoD 4. Why? Cause it uses that engine, of course! The only difference here is that it has a much more versatile color scheme. The first level shows off the engine extremely well. The famous "Bond walks in, turns, shoots, blood comes down" thing is here and in glorious black and white.Oh, Daniel Craig instead of Sean Connery. The game just looks beautiful. However, I noticed the animation looks really weird. I can't quite explain it other than saying that it looks pretty fakey. Pathetic kind of fakey. I don't know how to say it, but it's bad. Oh, and the musical score isn't very memorable. On the other hand, Daniel Craig does his part as Bond very well. He's pretty awesome, actually. The others are so-so. "Not noteworthy" is a good thing to say. The presentation is average; Call of Duty World at War turned out so well in this department, though.
The gameplay is basically CoD, but Bond. The level designs are extremely linear and offer a lot of cover. The game should've been called Gears of Bond with as much cover as you need to take in the game. The problem with the cover system is that it sucks, just sucks. You can pop into cover just fine but you're always just barely larger than the cover itself, usually getting you a hit from Random Bad Guy #674. For a game that relies so heavily on cover, it could've done it a bit better. However, there actually is an alternative to using the cover system: playing it Call of Duty style! So, don't use the cover system (You can tell that to fuck its face.), just play it the way they really didn't want you to. Besides, cover shows Bond's average character model anyway.
Aside from the cover system and presentation, the overall gameplay can be flawless. It has some great action scenes and varied environments along with some pretty fun moments of gameplay. Other than that, there isn't much to say about this game. If you can overcome the myriad issues, you'll find an acceptable gaming experience for both Bond fans and Call of Duty fans, though generic in execution.
Score: 5.75
